Such an awesome and educational post. I believe most of us are compassionate, but on the other hand skeptical if many asking for help, truly do need the help. The bag of food is such a simple thing to do, yet, I've certainly never thought of it.

My husband and I are about to go on vacation and I know we'll encounter needy people. I'm going to get a few bags ready, and will even put a Gospel tract in as well. Thanks for sharing!

That is so hard - I have the same feelings of helpless concern when I see the homeless people who are often in our area.

Last summer we put together some food bags similar to what you suggested - we assembled them with our small group and had everyone bring a case of something to put in, and then made them assembly line style! We also included small slips of paper with the names and contact information of local Christian rescue missions.

I love that my daughter has seen me hand these out to people in need - how can we teach our kids that Jesus loves people deeply and cares about those who are desperate and stuck, whether just financially or otherwise, and then just drive by and look the other way when people need our help?

...which reminds me, I need to make more of those bags. :)
