Is your boat in the water?
When our kids were little, my parents gave them a blow-up raft to use in the neighborhood swimming pool. It worked great for a few summers. My three children had a great time paddling around the pool and giving rides to their friends.
About the third summer the raft developed a small hole. For a while it still floated pretty well. It only took on a little water, not enough to cause any trouble. But over time that hole got bigger. Then other holes developed. The last time the kids used it they had to continually bale out water with a bucket just to keep it afloat. Read more
"Love One Another?"
“Love one another.” Sounds doable, right? Care about and care for our brothers and sisters in Christ. After all, we are children of the same Father. We all have the same Holy Spirit. Yep, completely doable. Umm, unless meeting a need means I have to change my schedule. Or open my wallet. Or give up my free evening watching my favorite television shows. Preserved with Purpose
My newly married, 22 year-old daughter has been blogging. I’d like to share with you her recent reflections on the fleeting nature of mankind and the loving preservation of our heavenly Father.
I really need to be grading papers. Like really, really, REALLY (ya, 3 reallys) need to be grading right at this moment. But I’ve had a thought running through my mind that I feel compelled to share, so I will spare 5 minutes.
My mind is very musical. This is both a blessing and a curse, because I don’t think I’m ever awake without a song in my head. The curse comes in when an absurd song like MC Hammer’s “You Can’t Touch This” rules my brain for DAYS. The blessing is when something like this happens. Read more
Father Knows Best
My son recently witnessed a sad, but unnecessary event. While hitting baseballs with friends at a local park, Mark heard a cry for help. A woman and her three young children were huddled around a bulldog that was struggling to breathe.
Bulldogs are very susceptible to heat stroke. Breeders warn owners to be very cautious, particularly in the south. This particular West Texas afternoon was hot, over 90 degrees. But the mom thought the dog needed exercise and disregarded her husband’s warnings about the same thing. Read more
