GUIDING DISCUSSION
Teaching or leading discussion for a small group can be tricky. It doesn’t matter if it’s adult Sunday School, ladies Bible study, or a home group. Dealing with different personalities and members with various levels of Bible knowledge can leave you feeling like you’re driving across country without a road map.
I’ve encountered lots of different kinds of people and had many challenging classroom experiences during my twenty-plus years of teaching the Bible in various small group settings. The following helps will not cover everything you might encounter, but they do address many common situations.

SPIRITUALLY PREPARING YOURSELF TO SERVE OTHERS
One of my heroes is a writer named Ezra, who lived about 450 years before the birth of Christ. The Bible describes this priest and scribe as a man who “had devoted himself to the study and observance of the law of the LORD and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel (Ezra 7:10, NIV).” Ezra passionately pursued God through the study and obedience of His Word. As he learned from God, Ezra then taught others and helped them apply God’s Word to their lives.
