My life is just a bit overwhelming right now. Our second daughter just got married. Our son – the youngest – is about to leave for college. We are in the middle of moving from one city to another. My father-in-law is going with us. I have to leave my church job. I have a book deadline.
During my quiet time the other day I laid it all out before God. “What am I going to do?” “How can I handle all this?” So God reminded me of a few of His promises. I’d like to share them with you:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29, NIV
Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD;my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary,and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:27-21, NIV
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27, NIV
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
God promises me rest, strength, peace, mercy, and grace. I say “yes” to all those promises. How about you?
So beautiful and much needed today. My last 6 months have been a blur and am still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.
