Some of you read this blog regularly. Over the years, you’ve read about my family and my travels and my ministry. And you’ve shared with me. And even though most of us have not met face to face, we have a connection through Christ and shared experience. I love that!
So, with that in mind, some of you may be interested in a little update about my life. We are in the midst of some changes and the next few months will be hectic – maybe even overwhelming.
First, my husband retired in December after 37 years with Conoco-Phillips. It was kind of sudden. He had planned to work two or three more years, but pretty much every oil company had layoffs last year, so when the opportunity came up, we prayed and talked and he volunteered.
In addition to adjusting to the new “retirement” schedule, for the next few weeks, Wayne and I will be busy “decluttering” the house so we can put it on the market. Our plan is to move closer to our daughters and their families.
Of course, as so often happens, this is not the only major thing happening for us. My parents are not well and neither my brother nor I live in the same city with them. It is really hard to give them the care they need long-distance. I’ve spent a lot of the last few months on the road. But God has finally brought everything together for us to be able to move them to the city where my brother lives.
That move will happen before our move. In fact, I’m heading there tomorrow to do some packing and visit my folks.
I have been fairly faithful to blog twice a week – every Monday and Thursday. I love sharing with you and I love hearing from you. And I have this thing about being consistent.
But when I sat down to write the post for today, I thought “I’ve got nothing!” So, instead of some interesting illustration or devotional thought or brief time in the Word, I decided simply to share what’s going on with us. And maybe you’ll remember it in case I miss a day – or two – of posts in the weeks ahead.
I’d love to hear from you! What big or little thing is dominating your life right now?
I will be praying for you as God brings you to my mind in the days ahead. Praying for wisdom, compassion, discernment, and joy in the midst of upheaval. I’m glad you will be able to be closer to your girls. That will mean a lot. Blessings to you!
Praying for you Kathy as you have so much on your plate right now. After the dust settles, I know you and hubby will enjoy this new chapter in life together! How exciting!
I will keep you and family, and all the transitions necessary for you.
Wow! Lots of changes for you guys. So happy you are able to move your parents. I know that has been on your heart and mind for a long time. Praying that you and Wayne will adjust to the retirement years with the grace and purpose you both always live your lives! Enjoy being near the girls and those grandbabies!!
Kathy, I know exactly what you’re going through. I am turning 70 this year and have been a pastor for over 40 years and with my current congregation for 18 years. We are facing retirement soon, including the probability of moving 1,300 miles to be near one of our children. Although our parents are gone, we are facing the reality of us being the recipient of our children’s care. I have so appreciated your blog and hope you are able to continue your insightful thoughts. Be assured my wife, Jan, and I are praying for you.
Dale, thank you for sharing your situation. It’s difficult to move and start over but I do think you’re wise to move closer to your family. In addition to wanting to be close to our family now to watch our grandkids grow up, we are also thinking ahead – hopefully down the road a few years – when we will need their help. I do plan to keep writing, but the the next few months may temporarily get in the way! Thank you for your prayers and kind words!
You’re putting your focus in good places during this season in your life. You’ll shine with Christ where ever you go and continue to touch lives. My prayers are with you as Jesus walks you through this journey. Shine on, Kathy. We will await your return to hear of Christ’s victories though you.
Uplifting blessing.
If I’ve learned anything over the years, in tough times and times of plenty, it’s that change is good when we search for our good God in the process. I have no doubt you will do that — you already are. My prayers are with you today, for wisdom and strength. Much love, Sister-Girlfriend!
Kathy,
It was so good to be at Bible study yesterday, even though I couldn’t stay!
My changes are that I’m no longer working to take better care if myself spiritually, physically, and mentally as well as to travel with my husband when he’s working away from home for months at a time; and I am now going to be taking care of my grandsons a couple if hours a few days a week. Hoping to be able to keep myself a priority with this addition!
You have been such a great mentor and encourager to me during your time here and I will miss you greatly! Glad to have the Bible study time with you.
Enjoy those grandbabies!!!
