God became man. Jesus Christ became human in order to provide forgiveness for the sins of humanity. He tasted death for everyone so we can have life. Because Jesus walked this planet He understands our weaknesses. He understands the temptations we face and the trials we endure. He is uniquely equipped to help us. The all-powerful, exalted Christ who has authority over all things, can completely empathize with His people.
Because of these wonderful truths, the author of Hebrews encourages his readers – and us – to dwell on the person of Jesus Christ. Fixing our thoughts on Jesus gives us the strength to stand firm in our faith and not waver.
What does it look like to “fix your thoughts on Jesus?” (Hebrews 3:1)In your daily life, what are some practical ways we can obey this command?
Well, by keeping an attitude of prayer. When we pray and direct our thoughts toward him throughout the day, our eyes are fixed on Him. There are ways to “remember” to do that when we forget. For instance, taped to my computer and desk at work, I have some of my favorite Bible verses. I can’t miss those, even when I’m busy working! Playing worship or Christian music helps keep my mind on Him and His promises as well as His Greatness. I have it on the radio on my long (1 hour) commute to work. I also find that by starting my day with Him, I am better equipped to face the day. So, that is when I have my quiet time. Later on, I often reflect back on my early morning time with Him.
I know there are many more ways to help us fix our thoughts on Jesus, but those are some of mine.
Living for Him, Joan
I like the memorizing scripture idea!
Thanks Joan! Those are all great suggestions.
My thoughts are on the same lines as Joans, putting Jesus first in my life in every decision I have to make right down to my hair color:-). I try to pray continuously throughout the day and scripture memorization helps keep focus. Daily quiet time and spending time with Jesus,I allow Him to let me know how much time I need to spend with Him,lately I’ve been spending alot of time with Him due to the difficult issue’s we’ve been going through.
Karey, I love that you said, “I allow Him to let me know how much time I need to spend with Him.” That is what a relationship should look like!
I try to keep my mind focused on him throughout the day. I try to stay in an attitude of prayer and thankfulness all day long but of course there are plenty of days when I am too self focused! Reading my Bible and listening to Christian music also help me to keep my focus on Jesus!
Thanks Tracy! Thanks for pointing out that being self-focused takes our eyes off Jesus. We all need more of Him and less of us!
I agree Kathy! More of Jesus, less of us!!
These are great! I am facilitating a group on women I studying Hebrews and looking at chapter 3 this week. Many of them are stay at home young mums. I already had Scripture Memory and reading the Bible and music and prayer. Putting verses in strategic places and bringing every decision before Him is another way to invite His Lordship and leading throughout the day. Karey, I love that you said that when there are many issues you face, you press in more into the Lord. Often we do the opposite! And thanks for the point about hair colour too! I’m doing that next time!
