We know we can learn about Jesus in the New Testament, but did you realize you can learn a lot about Jesus in the Old Testament? In the first chapter of Hebrews, the author quotes seven OT passages that teach us about the nature of the Messiah (Jesus). He wanted to overwhelm his audience of Jewish Christians – with evidence from the Scriptures they knew – with the superiority of Christ.
Note: If you have not been following the online study in the book of Hebrews you can still join in. You can also participate in this discussion by reading the following passages:
Ps 2:7; 2 Sam 7:14; Ps 97:7; Ps 104:4; Ps 45:6-7; Ps 102:25-27; Psalm 110:1;
What did you learn about the superiority and position of Christ from these seven OT passages?
Christ is supreme and rules with justice! Through Him, God speaks with us and we will find salvation. He is fighting the battle against evil…a battle that He will win. One day, His enemies will be in total submission to Him. Praise God! Isn’t it wonderful to know that we have a savior who is fighting for us? He is not simply watching from afar…He is “in the trenches” so to speak, fighting and winning the battle for our souls.
Living for Him, Joan
It was so sweet to read all the Scripture passages you are sharing on the bottom of this post in the first chapter of Hebrews. Now it totally clicked that this letter indeed was written for the Jewish believers. Not sure why it never clicked before.
Thank you.
I love the picture of Jesus as victorious King who has “put all His enemies under His feet!”
