Last week I had the honor of being interviewed during a great online event called the “Bible Study Expo.” I got to share about “Unshakeable Faith” with all the women listening in. At the end of my time, the hostess asked me one more question: “What is your favorite Bible verse?”
I love God’s Word and so many verses have a special place in my heart. After about ½ second of wondering which verse I should share out of all the glorious truths in God’s Word, Galatians 2:20 began to come out of my mouth.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20, NIV
God embedded this verse in my heart about 25 years ago when He did some major work on my faith. Until that point it had been very shallow and me-centered. Then during my first ever women’s Bible study, God opened my eyes to see that my faith should be all about Jesus! (I know it seems obvious, but I guess I’m a slow learner.)
This verse embodies that truth. When I gave my life to Jesus, my entire life became His. “Kathy” should no longer exist. When people look at me they should see Jesus instead. I still have a long way to go, but at least now I have my eyes on the goal and am moving in the right direction.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why? I’d love to hear about it!
Like you, there are many favorite verses; but one remains #1 on my list. Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
I know that without His strength I would have already given up running the race of faith.
Kathy, I am so thankful for your website; it helps me to stay focused and encouraged.
Blessings to you and yours.
Iris, you are so right! We are so weak, but praise God, Christ gives us His strength! Great verse! And thanks for all your encouragement to me!
My favorite verses seem to change constantly depending on what speaks to me that week. I know this is one I always go back to
Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” I seem to constantly need a reminder to watch what is coming out of my mouth – always making sure it is lifting people up and not bringing them down.
In parenting, I constantly go to Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers (or mothers in my case) do not exasperate your children. Instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
Penny, thanks for sharing those with us. Ephesians 4:29 is one I have memorized because it constantly challenges me. I need to keep it close to me to use as a measuring stick for everything I say!
My favorite is Deuteronomy 29:29, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” God has given us everything we need to know (and teach to our children) in His word. I am glad to have a God that I can not completely understand and who understands my limitations so completely.
Well said Andy! Thanks for sharing that. I also take comfort in knowing that while we may be limited, God is not!
